We will set up a complete system with 2 JBL EON speakers on stands, plus four (yes 4) B-52 subwoofers!
We use four large subs because even with modern technology the only way to move lots of air (bass) is with large subs.
With this configuration the sound will be loud enough on the dance floor without hurting anyones ears (it's treble and midrange that hurts ears) , yet those nearby can still enjoy conversation. We won't "crank it up" unless the host requests it. And with this setup regardless of what volume you choose it will always sound clean.
